I plan to use medication for pain, do I still need a doula?
Although epidurals are effective relieving pain most of the time,
there are things your epidural can not do for you. Your epidural will
not:
- Give
you a massage
- Provide
you with information about your options
- Get
you ice chips
- Give
your partner a break
- Be
reassuring and nurturing
- Help
you with breathing
- Help
you with breastfeeding
- Take
photographs
Nothing can take the place of a comforting touch or words of encouragement.
The use of a doula and an epidural can give the experience that you
desire and allow you to focus on the birth of your baby.

"Gentle
and strong, competent, sensitive, smart and completely helpful. Tamara
is a wonderful person to have by your side during childbirth!"
-Susan Porter
Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles
"Tamara
provided the support, encouragement, nurturing, experience and knowledge
that gave me the confidence to strive for (and achieve) a natural birth."
-Char

Cedars Sinai, Los Angeles
"Tamara
was a vital part of our labor and delivery. However, she still allowed
it to remain "our" experience."
-Mark

"I first
questioned the need for a doula - after all, wasn't I the birth partner?
Tamara, however, quickly demonstrated the benefit of an experienced
doula by providing guidance, information and comfort to Valerie and
myself. We, and especially I, could not have done it without her."
